Reading through the Bible in 2009

Check out this reading plan. It takes into account the fact that most, if not all, of us get behind during the year and then get disappointed. I have already started using this plan and will for sure use the extra five days a month to play catch up. I pray that I won’t but I am being honest with myself.

Fasting

John Piper has some great direction for fasting in 2009.

Why Fast?

1. For Jesus to come back
Matthew 9:14-15
2. For help in a new venture in ministry
Matthew 4:1-2; Acts 13:3
3. To avert some danger or threat
Ezra 8:21; 2 Samuel 12:16
4. To express sorrow and loss
2 Samuel 1:12; 1 Chronicles 10:12
5. To express repentance and grief for sin
Joel 2:12-13
6. Not for the praise of men
Matthew 6:16-18

Book List

2008 is over. I have so many books I want to read in 2009. I put together this list and realized a couple of things.

1) There are several books that I started 2008 that I need to finish FIRST before moving on to my ’09 list.
2) I need to broaden my reading. Christian books are beneficial but there are many good biographies, novels, and non-fiction out there.
3) Accountability is the key. The books that I have read WITH SOMEONE are the ones that tend to get COMPLETED faster.
4) I want to start writing reviews of the books I read. I think this will help me collect my thoughts and be more purposeful in engaging the book. Much like the benefit of journaling.

So I ask you, what books did you read in 2008?
What books do you look forward to reading in ’09?
